Spain and Austria will meet in the semifinals. They have met once in Fed Cup, with Austria earning the honours in 1984. In the second semifinal, Slovak Republic
meets Italy for the first time.
The Fed Cup World Group consists of 16 nations playing over three weeks throughout the year in a knock-out format.
The first two rounds are played on a home-and-away basis with the World Group Semifinals and Final to be played at
one venue during the week of 28 October. One of the four nations that reach the Semifinals will host the Semifinals and
Final. A decision will be made on the host venue by the end of August.
The Draw for the 2003 World Group will be made during the Semifinals and Final week.
